Yeah,there are a few VFD's installed on Cold Brine pumps. There are a couple of advantages. First, lower power consumption. Thanks to pump affinity laws a 50% reduction in speed results in a 50% reduction in flow and an 87.5% reduction in brake horse power. The second advantages of a brine pump VFD is the lower torque on start up that saves the pump coupling over time.

Ice temperature set point?

Ice temperature is a difficult balance between energy savings and ice quality. What temperature do you set your ice at?

Arena/Curling Ice thickness

Ice thickness is one of the many factors that influence energy consumption of the refrigeration plant. How thick do you maintain your ice? And how frequently do you check the thickness?
